Christchurch Stormwater Pipe Bursting
Seipp was employed to find a solution to repair this 190m long section of concrete stormwater pipeline
Scope
- Long length pipe bursting – 190m undertaken in a single operation
- Extensive dewatering
- Significant coordination and management of traffic/stakeholders
Project Description
Our team was employed to find a solution to repair this 190m long section of concrete stormwater pipeline. Due to the high number of services to be crossed, the intact alignment of the existing pipeline and the constraints around local resident and business access, we proposed pipe bursting as the repair methodology.
Our approach included use of specialist equipment to effectively manage the high water table in the project location. With our access to the right resources and expertise we successfully dewatered the site, without incident, including extensive surface dewatering and treatment of water prior to discharge
We also faced major traffic management constraints on this project - works were actually undertaken beneath two live arterial roads. To minimise disturbance and delays to traffic, it was necessary to burst the entire 190m length of pipe in a single operation. This was a significant undertaking, but with careful planning and management we successfully achieved a single pipe burst without disturbance or delay to road-users and traffic flows.
