Installation and ongoing maintenance of an environmental monitoring system for discharges into the Avon River.

Seipp Construction undertook the challenging task of dewatering the site on which the Christchurch Hospital’s new Acute Services Building is being constructed. This highly visible project required both strict environmental controls and sensitivity to the public and stakeholders who continued to use the hospital campus.

The Seipp Construction team contributed to project success through the development of an innovative remotely-controlled dewatering system. This enabled Project Managers to undertake remote, real-time monitoring of the pH and sediment levels of site discharge. The result was robust environmental compliance and an ability to significantly improve the quality of water being discharged.

In addition to the monitoring of pH and turbidity /suspended solids levels, the system provided the functionality for pumps to be remotely controlled and switched off. This was a New Zealand first, and ensured immediate action could be taken, in the event of any issue.
